Yo-Yo Ma West Palm Beach Concert reviews
Wonderful show; great family event
What a wonderful show! The routines were full of energy, creativity, and feeling. We left feeling like we could have watched another 2-hour show : - ) I was glad that these skaters seem to be good role models, especially in a world where the media continually provides us with so many shallow and self-destructive examples. We really enjoyed the show and watching all the skaters perform was such a treat! I went with my 11-yr old daughter, and she was thrilled (THRILLED!) to be there. It was so nice to attend an event where hard work was showcased.
Some observations about the Meet & Greet event after the show ($75/person) -- Gracie Gold was the most pleasant and so appreciative of her fans. The skaters were gracious overall and seemingly happy to be there -- although it was after the show so I imagine they were likely exhausted. We went because my daughter has been skating for 4+ years, and it was a dream for her to meet the skaters. While I noticed some negative aspects, I have to say they were generally not obvious so my daughter did not notice and was on cloud nine. As a parent, my feedback is that our kids really look up to these skaters so much that I wouldn't want anything to take away from their experience. Ashley Wagner seemed surprisingly shy (or maybe just tired), and Mirai Nagasu was a bit impatient. Charlie Davis and Meryl Davis were basically mobbed (in an orderly way) as once they entered the reception room, a long line formed. Especially since we're willing to pay premium prices so that our kids can have the privilege of meeting and seeing these stars up close. Charlie was mostly positive and funny -- but now and then, made comments that showed he was irritated (and probably tired too). Meryl was also nice but generally quieter. The other skaters were really great and because they weren't in as high demand (although still very popular), they were able to mingle more and engage in more conversations. On the other hand, Meryl Nagasu was a bit impatient.
This was our first Yo-Yo Ma, and we would likely attend this event in future years. The performances were so amazing that my daughter is still talking about them days later, and will likely continue for a while!
